For more than five decades, Gardens America has played a steady role behind the scenes of the floral industry, connecting global growers with wholesalers and florists across the United States. This April marks 50 years since the company’s incorporation, representing more than 57 years of continuous service and evolution within the floral supply chain.
Founded in 1969 by Peggy and John Gillice, Gardens America was among the early companies to help introduce Colombian chrysanthemums into the U.S. market. At a time when international sourcing was still developing, these early partnerships helped lay the groundwork for the global floral networks that exist today.
Headquartered in Miami, the primary gateway for fresh-cut flower imports into the United States, the company has remained family-owned through three generations. Leadership transitioned to Colleen Taber in 1998, and in 2018, Kristin Gilliland stepped in as owner and CEO, continuing the company’s long-standing commitment to the industry.
That continuity has shaped the company’s approach. Gardens America has focused on building long-term relationships across every level of the supply chain, from growers to wholesalers to florists, while supporting the broader growth of floriculture.
Today, Gardens America sources fresh-cut flowers from leading global farms and maintains exclusive partnerships, including with Liwi for the Stella variety. The company’s role extends beyond distribution, with active involvement in organizations that help guide the future of the industry, including the American Floral Endowment, Society of American Florists, CalFlowers, Florida State Florist Association, Illinois State Florist Association and That Flower Feeling.
Gilliland currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the American Floral Endowment and contributes to several industry initiatives, while team members remain engaged in leadership roles across key organizations.
As the company reaches this milestone, the focus remains clear. Strengthening grower partnerships, supporting floral professionals and contributing to industry-wide initiatives continue to guide the next chapter.
This milestone has also been recognized across industry media, including coverage by FloralDaily.
More than five decades in, Gardens America is not just reflecting on its history. It is continuing to build on it.
