Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. In a world where “wellness” often means juggling meditation apps, workout routines, and elaborate rituals, the simple act of enjoying flowers can offer meaningful benefits without all the effort. That’s why Gardens America is proud to support That Flower Feeling—a floral industry initiative that champions flowers as an easy, accessible form of self-care.
That Flower Feeling is a collaborative effort backed by growers, breeders, wholesalers, florists, and floral importers (including Gardens America). The goal? To raise awareness of the emotional and physical benefits of flowers, and to encourage more people to embrace them in everyday life. According to a 10-month Rutgers University study, flowers have an immediate and lasting positive impact on mood. They help reduce stress, spark happiness, and foster deeper connections.
We’re especially proud that our own Kristin Gilliland is serving as an official ambassador for That Flower Feeling. As part of this vibrant community, she helps promote the message that flowers are not just for special occasions—they’re everyday essentials for emotional well-being. Ambassadors share the mission through content, social media, and personal advocacy, bringing this message of wellness to new audiences across the country.
So, what does self-care mean—and why do flowers matter?
Self-care is simply the practice of taking care of your mental and physical health in a way that fits your lifestyle. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a short walk, or yes, enjoying the sight and scent of fresh flowers, small habits can make a big difference. Flowers may not replace a workout or a nutritious meal, but they are a visual and emotional boost—an “off-the-shelf” form of self-care that’s easy to embrace.
A few upcoming dates that pair perfectly with floral wellness:
- Mother’s Day (May) – Flowers and self-care go hand in hand—treat the moms in your life (or yourself) to a bouquet that lifts the spirit.
- National Wellness Month (August) – Add fresh flowers to your daily environment as a small act of mindfulness and calm.
- World Mental Health Day (October 10) – A meaningful time to gift or receive blooms and support conversations around emotional well-being.
- Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17) – Brighten someone’s day with a spontaneous arrangement that says, “I’m thinking of you.”
At Gardens America, we believe in the power of flowers—importing the finest blooms from around the world so people can feel good, connect, and enjoy moments of beauty. With Kristin and the rest of the That Flower Feeling ambassador community, we’re proud to promote a simple message: wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it just starts with flowers.
