At Gardens America, sourcing beautiful flowers is just the beginning. What happens before a bloom reaches our coolers is just as important as what happens after. Today, more than ever, sustainability plays a leading role in how we evaluate our partner farms, select new product lines, and guide our clients in making informed purchasing decisions.

Vetting with Intention

We work with over 30 growers around the world—and we’re selective. Each grower must meet not only our high standards for quality and consistency, but also demonstrate a strong commitment to environmentally responsible practices. These include:

  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) that reduces chemical usage by emphasizing early detection and targeted treatment.
  • Water conservation systems that capture and recycle rainwater, while ensuring wastewater is treated properly.
  • On-site composting and waste reduction programs that repurpose organic material and safely manage chemical byproducts.

These measures not only help protect the environment, but they also result in fresher, longer-lasting blooms that consistently meet the needs of our customers.

The Story Behind the Stella Flower

One of the most distinctive examples of sustainable sourcing in action is the Stella flower, also known as the Inírida flower or Guacamaya superba. Native to the remote white sand savannas along the Colombian-Venezuelan border, Stella is a stunning, spiky bloom available exclusively through Gardens America in limited quantities.

Its cultivation supports biodiversity preservation and provides new economic opportunities for Indigenous families in the region. The flower’s commercial production is helping safeguard the species’ long-term survival while creating sustainable livelihoods in a protected part of the world.

With an impressive vase life of 21 to 28 days and a dramatic visual presence, Stella is more than a beautiful bloom—it’s a symbol of how thoughtful sourcing can benefit both the environment and the communities who help bring these flowers to life.

Helping Buyers Go Greener

We understand that many of our clients—wholesalers, supermarkets, and florists—want to make environmentally sound choices but may not always know where to start. That’s where our team comes in. Whether you’re seeking eco-conscious flowers, looking to align your product mix with sustainability goals, or simply want varieties that last longer and perform better, we’re here to help you make selections that reflect your values.

Sourcing sustainably isn’t a trend—it’s the future of floral. And at Gardens America, it’s built into everything we do.
